[Transparency Market Research]: DPI Market to Reach $3.8B by 2018

A new research by Transparency Market Research predicts that "The global DPI market is expected to be USD 3.81 billion in 2018 growing at a CAGR of 36.6% from 2012 to 2018. Asia Pacific accounts for the major share of the DPI market and this trend will remain the same till the end of the forecast period .. Some of the factors driving this market include increasing number of broadband users across the globe, increased mobile device penetration in the market and the increasing competitive pressure across network operators".

According to the above, the market size for 2012 was approximately $586M - which is line with other estimates. However, the expected CAGR is higher than other analysts predict (here).

"With mobile devices like tablets and smartphones penetrating the market at a rapid pace, mobile network providers will need to turn to sophisticated network control techniques such as awareness of the device, application, user and location. However, there is still a lot of speculation about the actual benefits of DPI as opposed to invasion of privacy of the actual users. Privacy and net neutrality concerns remain some of the major restraining factors for this market. The main players in this market include Allot Communications, Procera Networks, Inc. and Sandvine Corporation, Arbor Networks, Cisco Systems, to name a few".
