ReplyDeleteSeems a lot of work here, but in my experience customers care more about the bottom-line price and when it's going to be delivered. I think most vendors, just adjust their figures to convince the customer that their deal is the best, then once they get in, the system is too hard to replace, and no vendor these days hits the deadlines. Most just make up excuses since they recognise that most customers don't really understand what's involved anyway.

ReplyDeleteI agree that price is an important factor, but is also easy to match.
However, carriers do believe that separation of the policy management and enforcement functions using standard protocols will (or should I say, may) make it easier to switch vendors in the future. This is why the DPI and PCRF vendors are going through all these IOTs, trying to show that they are open.
No doubt that at this stage any implementation requires customization, which tends to be expensive and long. This will probably get better in time.
It seems that all DPI RFPs now require support for 3GPP PCRF interfaces, whether or not PCRF is actually implemented.
